Flying Unicorn OCTOBER 2016 Your Passion Your Art Kit.
« August 2016 | Main | October 2016 »
Hello Uni's! It's Yasmin here on the blog today and I have some projects to share with you. I've used the gorgeous September kit with those amazing Rossibelle papers to make a layout and a card. Let's start with the layout first.
The kits are always gorgeous and filled to the brim with all the good stuff you like. I've fuzzy cut quite alot on this layout, splashed with color and painted with Colorbloom. Let's take a look at it.
I added some modeling paste in the background and like I said earlier I fuzzy cut ALOT. Painted a lot with the colorbloom that came in the kit, and added some of the color bloom that came with last months kit. I love that you get some paints and mists in the kit so you can use them again and again. I added a couple of straws and loads of layers.
I also wanted to show you a quick card I made with the kit aswell. I added a picture found on pintrest, love the chubby ballerina. :)
I've used the 6x6" Paper pad on this card and addes some of the gorgeous flowers.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
A big hello to our crafty friends around the world.
It's time for me to share a little creativity with you and I have a word of warning - there are lots of photos - major understatement.
I am going to share with you this project.
Take one paper mache book and smother it with heavy gesso - you don't have to be to finnicky in covering it
- I used my finger tips and just went for it.
Cover with patterned paper - this one is a FabScraps paper from their C85 Shabby Rose collection.
I have used Modge Podge as an adhesive to stick down my patterned paper.
Once dried I then applied a coating of clear gesso to the top of the patterned paper.
Ink around the edges.
Randomly apply rub on alphas.
In this case, it wasn't quite so random - I applied the letters to spell out a friend's name - sssshhhhh!!
This special friend has an addiction to books - true!
She is a true bibliophile.
I'm adding a special book to her pile.
Ink the spine and randomly apply rub on alphas.
I used a metal die and a die cut machine and using corrugated cardboard packaging,
I cut out the oval shape and inked all over and then added another piece of corrugated cardboard underneath to give it height.
I then adhered to the cover of my book.
I cut out numerous tags and layered smaller tags on the top.
Ink around the edges before your start to embellish.
My base layer to give stability was plain old white cardstock.
I didn't over embellish my set of tags.
On this project I made a set of three.
A double paper tag layer, a little muslin, a flower and a sticker sentiment and of course a little gesso.
A handmade tag to place at the top.
I grabbed a bottle of Shimmeringz and sprayed the oyster coloured seam binding to give it just a smidgeon of colour.
I sprayed the mist onto some paper and then using my finger swirled the seam binding through the colour and then dried it with my heat gun.
I have threaded all the tags on to a book album ring and then tied the seam binding between each tag.
My sentiment stickers for my tag set :
start here
find your happy
every single day
collect moments & memories
Tuck your tags inside your book.
On the top of my book.
My embellishment cluster was made up of my oval shape cut out of corrugated cardboard packaging, a little muslin, some foliage cuts, a few stamens, a strand of pearls, a bloom [flower] and a sentiment and then I have randomly applied gesso.
There you have it.
All done.
From the Flying Unicorn store :
Happy creating everyone.

Flying Unicorn offers these amazing coordinating exclusive collections for a steal of a price, so I figured I would show you how much you can play with them.
This is one of two layouts I made with supplies from the kit with tons left over.
I made a video BAP today with the bundle and some supplies from my stash. Most of the "extra supplies" I have picked up from the store or they are left overs from other kits.
Enjoy the closeup's.
Thanks for stopping today and check out the awesome collections available, more will continue to be uploaded.

Hello paper & Uni friends! Sharing with you today another layout using the gorgeous September Flying Unicorn Kit. The layout is a simple set up. Some big squares on top on each other in 3 different sizes. The largest being 9x9. Distress the edges. To create more depth I added some extra padding in between the layers.
The 2Crafty chipboard pieces I first painted with gesso. After it was dry I used a combination of inks and once I was happy with the colors I again dry-brushed it with white gesso. To finish it off I also coated it with a clear crackle. The effect is quite nice once it's properly dried.
The flower arrangement is a combination of Rossibelle flower packs. One more beautiful then the other. For the leaves I used chipboard from Scrapiniec to make them stand out more. Tucking in some of the Organza and putting down the title and were all done!

Hi everyone,
I've been on a card making frenzy of late.
I whipped up a card and quite like the way that it turned out - so I grabbed a different 6x6 paper pad and played with some papers and liked the way they turned out [yep, more than one] - so I did it again - as you do.
Let me share.
a close up
and again using a different Prima patterned paper pad
a closer look
different papers but from the same paper pad
another close up
And then, similar, but once again a little different.
What happens when you see a card and you think to yourself, ooh, I like that!
What's the point though, I can't make anything like that - I don't have all that 'flash' stuff.
Have another look at that card and break it down a little more.
When you look at this card, it's cardstock, it's a rectangle and squares, a flower,
some leaves, muslin, some cotton and gesso and a sentiment.
Try it this way.
Take a piece of patterned paper and cut it 6" x 4".
Cut a smaller piece of patterned paper 5" x 5".
Cut a smaller piece of patterned paper 2 1/4" x 1 3/4".
Ink around all the edges of your patterned paper.
I've used a black soot ink pad.
Cut out two pieces of corrugated card [packaging box]
and adhere to the back of your two smaller pieces of patterned paper.
Cut a piece of white cardstock 6 1/4" by 8 1/2" and score in half.
Adhere your largest piece of patterned paper - yes, you will see a small margin left all around the edge, it's a little smaller than your cardstock base card.
If you have a piece of muslin [also known as cheesecloth around the world] - cut a piece and stretch it out with your fingers,
pull it apart a little [be gentle] and adhere to the bottom left hand side of your patterned paper.
Adhere your smaller piece of patterned paper so that the bottom edge sits below, drop it down a little.
Tuck under a couple of leaves, add a little twine if you have it, or perhaps a little cotton.
Add your sentiment - think words from your packaging, stamp a sentiment, stamp using alphas
and cut out individual letters, similar to self adhesive alphas.
Type up a strip on your computer and print it out, ink the edges and adhere.
and a close up
Some crafters don't like using gesso and that's okay, it's an individual thing, but to finish this particular card
I have grabbed the tub of gesso and a paintbrush and played.
and another close up
and one more
So next time you see a card or a tag that you like and think that you
can't do anything like that - you can, honest.
Happy creating everyone.
Until next time,
Michelle [aka Mrs Frizz]

Hello Paper and Uni friends!
Sharing with you my latest project I made with the Flying Unicorn September Kit. This blogpost is going to be quite a lengthy one.
In the kit we got a 12x12 cardboard piece that would normally work very nicely as a canvas, but this time I wanted to do something different with it. So I put my thinking cap on and made myself a small album.
The size is quite easy. 6x6 for the cover and 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 for the inside pages. Since we got the whole Prima 6x6 Rossibelle Collection the perfect sizes to work with.
Once I had cut the pieces to size I used the Prima double sided tape to glue it together. Make sure to give your book the space to be able to fold.
I chose to make the pages a little bit smaller then the cover.
The space between the pages gives you some room for some bulkier flowers and embellishments if you like.
Now that the book has been put together and we've made sure our seams are all bendable and sturdy we can start decorating.
The Rossibelle collection gives you so many options and I was lucky to have to complete collection. For most of the project I tried to stay with the marvelous Flying Unicorn kit though.
I like to keep the adjacent pages similar to each other, so I started with the same base papers. After that you can play around a little. I cut a 3x6 strip and only glued the edges to create a pocket. On the edge I put a punched paper strip. For the right page I cropped one of the 4x6 Journal Notecards.
For the next 2 pages I started out with the flower base papers and made the pockets with the black and white papers, using the pink paper as the punched edge. Using some of the stickers form the 6x6 collection to decorate and the gorgeous flowers.
Now It's time to return to the front of the book. I used a metal frame by Tim Holtz. To make it fit in with the foiled look of the 12x12 papers, I used some of the Brass hardware paint on it. To make it a little bit more fun I found this cute little crown in my stash and I wanted to put it on top of it. Also drybrushed the crown with the same paint.
The tittle fits perfectly. I picked the flowers I wanted to use. Made some die cut leaves with the Rossibelle paper and cut some pieces of the organza to tuck in, here and there. It's already coming along quite nicely.
The little Scrapiniec chipboard sprigs add just a fun little detail. A little bling from the new Rossible trim is a nice accent. On the little tags I put some to make it stand out and also on the outline of the flowers. From a second page I cut out some butterflies and glued them down.
I got the Seal of Approval piece from the Chipboard and More pack.
I went for the black and white paper on the back. Used the resin piece in the center and glued a little metal pull to connect the metal chain, On the spine of the book I glued the petite rosette trim with a Memory Hardware Pull in the middle. On the pull I hung some embellishments and tied some organza.
This is my little book! I hope you've enjoyed the process.

Step 1. I painted the box black. I had some black gesso with a matte finish available so that is what I used. And it is true...I have the world's yuckiest paint brushes because I do not take care of them. ( Husband and I are painting a room in our house today and my husband is in for a wild-eyed awakening if he is relying on me to actually clean the paint brushes. Ahhh but back to crafting....)
Step 1. Cut two Skelly dolls - from Prima and Julie Nutting.
Step 2. One doll will be decorated and the second doll will be used for the backside as support.
Ink the edges of both dolls with black ink for shading and blending. It's very important to make sure you ink the edges of the doll that will be used as the bottom layer. You do not want any white edges peeking out when the doll is finished. Once the doll is glued together, it's nearly impossible to add ink to the inside edges to cover up white. The extra steps and care taken ahead of time will make the finished product so much more appealing.
Select the doll that will be on the backside and flip her over. Cut some small pieces from a wood skewer and glue to the doll. Wood toothpicks will add support as well, however I always have wood skewers on my craft table so that is usually my "go-to" supply.
Make sure you add wood supports to all areas that may bend - like the legs, neck, arms.
Step 4. Add layers to Skelly's skirt, along with some additional creepy black cheesecloth, and she's all done. Paper Used on Skelly: My Mind's Eye -Lost & Found Paper 6x6 Sunshine collection LF2104
Here's the completed look. Skelly's ready to take a stroll about town and turn some heads in her new scary couture outfit.
