Flying Unicorn SEPTEMBER 2016 Your Passion Your Art Kit.
« July 2016 | Main | September 2016 »
I was feeling quite silly the other day and this is the result! I truly adore these crazy dog stamps, they are ever so much fun. while I was making this, I gave the dogs names. Ha ha, that bulldog, well she's Petunia. And below her is Fredrick, and then Poindexter and finally, Othello. Now don't ask me how I came up with those names, it just happened!
I used a Prima icon tray that came in the August Flying Unicorn kit to make this dog house condo. The tray was just perfect. I made a roof from chipboard and affixed to the top. I used water colors from a previous Unicorn kit to color these little sweeties and diecut vines and Petaloo flowers. You can easily do this just using bits and pieces from you stash.
Hello Paper friends!
Thank you for letting me share with you another today post!
For this layout I used our very own wonderful Flying Unicorn - Your Passion Your Art August Kit!
There was so much in the kit this month and it gives us so many options to work with.
I actually wanted to use the sheet with all the details as the back ground but since I used all the fuzzy cut pieces on several projects I went and looked through all my papers and found a similar page to substitute. Since it only showed a small edge, problem solved.
I made the edges wet of the pink page to make it easier to distress the edges.
A friend of mine had gone to one of the latest Tim Holtz classes and came back with one of his newest stencils not for sale in the shops. She gave it to me, so I feel very lucky!
I used it on this layout with a combination of Gesso and Modeling paste. Once dry I used 2 different prima stamps to bring in some more back ground details.
Now that the background is done it's time to start with the layers. I cut some pieces from the Lemoncraft - Just Love Me - 04 sheet and I had a piece left over from a Studio 75 sheet. Using the strips that were cut off the striped paper as part of the layering as well. Sliding in a doily and the new Snipart Chipboard pieces. The color scheme fits perfectly with the Prima - Garden Fable chipboard pieces, so I added some of those to my layout too.
The flowers in the kit this month are a perfect match to all the colors in the paper. I love making these arrangements. It's the complete package. Love the little flowers.
Adding the titles, some final touches like the lace and jute and the layout is complete.

Here is a layout I made using some of the the goodies that come in the Flying Unicorn August KOM.
Lots of pictures today as I walk you through the process.
I always start out using Clear Gesso to prime my paper.
Yep I fussy cut, but I used some of the elements that come with the paper to added extra embellishments.
I fumbled around with the layout to see what looked good.
Using some color, I sprayed an painted the chippies.
I stamped the background to add some more detail.
I also added a flourish stencil, and mixed some Mica powder with some gesso to make a subtle blue paste for another stencil. And then back to the assembly.
Thank you for taking a peak.

Hi everyone,
It's time to share a little creativity with you all. I recently purchased a new die cutting machine and it came with a few do-dads and one of those do-dads was a large matchbox metal die set.
Have to say that I am having a ball making up some new wee trinket boxes.
Here you go ...
and tucked inside this matchbox ...
A gift card as well.
And a special tag.
How about in a different colour scheme?
I really dug deep with this paper in my stash - a Prima paper from either 2009 or 2010.
Another special matchbox - open the drawer and you will find a matching tag.
A lined drawer.
Have to say, I love how this one turned out.
Nice fresh, Spring colours - a little colour in an otherwise dreary day
- bear in mind it's the middle of Winter in my part of the world.
And Christmas will be knocking on our door soon.
Watch this space - new advent calendar in the making.
Happy creating everyone.

Hi everyone!!
Today I'm sharing a mixed media layout, created with Flying Unicorn's August Kit of the Month.
I absolutely love that I can still see the background paper 'flowers' showing through the gesso!!
I did a lot of paint layers on the background.
Flowers and lace, oh my!!!
And I have a process video for you. Enjoy!!
Happy Playing!!

The Flying Unicorn kit always include and off the page project that is sure to put your creativity into motion! The August kit includes an adorable little row boat for the OTP. Also included in the kit is an 8 x 10 canvas, so I decided to combine the two to make a fun beach scene using Graphic 45's By the Sea collection.
Hello Uni Friends!
Sharing with you a layout made with our Flying Unicorn - August - Your Passion Your Art Kit.
So how do we make a boy layout with all these pinks and incorporate the little gears we got in the kit. That was kind of the challenge set at the start.
The kit came with these beautiful paper collections. Lemoncraft - Just love Me & Studio 75 - Alice's Dream. They work so well together.
I chose my background paper from the Lemoncraft collection and my second paper from Studio 75. This one I tore into strips and layered them, adding some chipboard for padding. Distressing the edges some as well.
The background needed a little something so I picked out a stamp set from 7 Dots and inked some parts of the paper. After this I mixed some Gesso with pink paint and used it on a stencil. I did not want the mixture to be perfect so the white and pink looked sort of unmixed. The same effect I used with the blue and a different stencil. The blue in this case was a spray of mist.
Before I could go any further it was time to prepare some of my other products I needed for my layout. I used some mist on cheesecloth to give it some color and for the chipboard pieces I first needed to coat them with gesso. Once that was dry I used 2 mist colors on the chipboard pieces.
Now it was time to assemble the rest of the layout.
I used a chipboard piece from Prima to frame my photos. Put some lace under the edge of the paper and draped the cheesecloth across the page. The little gears found their place on either side of the photos. I can not believe this little boy is now a 23 year old man. How time flies. He's an engineer now. I cut 2 straws in little bits and used a few pieces, splattered some white gesso over the page and it was all done.
Thank you so much for looking!
