Flying Unicorn JULY 2016 Your Passion. Your Art Kit.
« May 2016 | Main | July 2016 »
Hi everyone!!
Today I am sharing my Off the Page Project created with the June Kit. I'll give you a bit of background first, and follow up with instructions on the close-up pics.
When I started this project, I only planned on doing the birdhouse. Yep......it sort of evolved from there! Anyways, I was thinking of my newest grand-son's nursery. My Daughter wanted a rustic, country-ish decor and since the whole family loves to fish, this project fit in perfectly.
Once the 'birdhouse' was finished, I created the dock. And if you're going to have a dock, well.....you need water under it! And so this is how my OTP evolved.
A close-up of the front of the house. It was painted with black gesso, and then dry brushed with a fan brush and grey paint, and some white gesso. Once that was dry, I added some misting with the Olive Branch and Chalk Grey.
The little clock was gessoed, and then misted with Cobalt and edged with Black Ink. My little sign, was a metal tag, gessoed and aged with Vintage Photo. I then wrote out Gone Fishin' with a black sharpie. The 'feet' are very small thread bobbins. They also received the same aging technique as the base of the house, black gesso, mahogany and a tiny bit of white gesso, all dry brushed.
The roof is made from craft sticks, which I cut into 1 inch pieces. I placed them on my craft mat, and misted with Soft Teal, Cobalt, Empress Gold, Olive Branch and Chalk Grey. Once dry I stamped here and there with a brick stamp and black ink. I also edged all pieces with the ink. When I glued my pieces on, I staggered them. The chimney is a pawn from an old chess game, and it was given the same treatment as the roof. Since it is made of plastic, it was very easy to cut the angle, in order to have it stand straight on the roof.
Here's another closeup of the roof detail.
The dock was also created with craft sticks. I cut off the rounded ends, made a frame with them, and added my 'boards' on top. I did distress the ends of the boards, and even gouged into them here and there. The dock was painted grey, then dry brushed with mahogany, and black gesso. I also added splatters of black gesso, and dark brown mist.
The little fence was created with medium weight chipboard, and Tim Holtz On The Fence Die. I added black gesso, and dry brushed with white gesso. Then I misted with the soft teal, olive branch and chalk grey.
The water under the dock, was created on an 8 inch square canvas board. I went over the whole piece with Molding Paste and a palette knife, making sure that I created ripples and ridges. I then painted with black gesso on the back third of the board, and white gesso on the front two thirds.
The front section was misted with the cobalt, summer sky and olive branch and allowed to dry naturally. The back part was misted with the dark brown and worn leather, and heat set, until bubbles formed. I kept the heat going, to really puff them up, and they stayed that way.
You can see the 'rocks' created by the deep heating right in front of and behind the two shells. I then glued on the shells, and sprayed with the same water colors and the dark brown. The next step was to glue on the netting. I used gel medium to 'place' the mini prills and then sprayed over some with the dark brown.
I added a fishing pole made with a couple of chippy clock hands, thread and a few beads and an adornment. It was distressed with black gesso and the mists used above.
Hope you enjoyed and happy playing!!
Lynne

Hello Fellow Uni's! Today it's Yasmin here on the blog and I've made a video tutorial for you with the OTP Birdhouse we got in the June Kit. This has to be my favorite off the page project that have been included in the kits.
I've played with loads of mediums like gesso, crackle paste, Lindy's Stamp gang mists, the new metallique paint from Finnabair. So much fun making this project.
The litte house is heavely embellished with loads of prima flowers. Also included is a little bird I found in the birdcage that Prima realesed at CHA Winter 2016. It was perfect for this project.
If you'd like to see how I made this please check out the video below:
Here are some close up photos:
I dry brushed the flowers with gesso and added loads of beads and mica flakes for those finishing touches.
Love the flowers I used on this. Prima has so many awesome varities.

Hi crafters,
It's my turn today to share my creations with you. I received the beautiful French Riviera collection from Prima. It inspired me those two layouts.
Famille
First, I used the «Respirer l'air de la Mer» paper.
To add texture, I used the Postcard stencil from 13@rts with some modeling paste. After that, I glued some torn doilies with gel medium.
I wanted a beach color scheme, so I used Shimmerz Vibez Jeni B Bleu and Shimmerz Coloringz Well Blue Me Down.
I used the Say It In Cristal from the French Riviera collection.
To embellish, I used the French Riviera Six-Four-les-Plages and La Mer flowers.
Unforgettable
The background paper is called «Un petit mot de la mer».
For my background, I used the French Riviera 6x6 stencil with some modeling paste.
To add color to my background, I used Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Bodacious Blush and Mission Bells Brown.
I used the La Mer, Six-Four-la-Plage and the Evita - Elia flowers from Prima. I also used some of the beautiful Flying Unicorn Adorments Sea Creatures and Sail Away
I hope those summery layouts inspired you.
Have a nice day.

Pion For Father Collection -
Shoe Factory
Cut Out Sheet
Money
Petaloo Burlap Blossoms x 10 Natural
I don't usually think of Pion papers for dog layouts but I was starring at the collection the other day and trying to conjure up a layout. Since nothing was working for me I rolled over to my computer and started looking at Facebook and immediately spied this photo. Ding ding, that picture sure would look good on those Pion For Father papers I thought to myself. So here we have Henry who owns Aimee Filimoehala posing so handsomely in the Pacific NW. He is such a cutie! Thanks Aimee for letting me use your photo.
Be sure to check out my build a page tutorial on Snapguide .
First thing I did was mask on some pupppy paw prints using a Creative Embellishments (CE) mask. Then I added a heart border chippie, also from CE. The mottled white effect was created by spraying some white mist on it.
The ivy vine from CE was first painted white and then colored with some Lindy's mist. I dry brushed some white paint on the flowers just to make it all blend nicely.

Hello it's Heather today. Today I am sharing a build a page (BAP) using Flying Unicorns kit of the month (KOM). Lots of pictures today but I hope you enjoy the process.
I started out the process by picking the paper and I added a layer of clear gesso.i love this picture of maksim. Aunt Jane took it while we where up at the lake camping a couple years ago. He looks so young.
Then I added white gesso only where I wanted my background to be focused on.
I used the stamp that came in the kit and stamped on the background.
I've then decided to add some spray to pull out the colors from the picture.
I used a stencil from my stash and the back 13Arts to add some texture.
I then painted the chippie white and then use the art alchemy opal magics green gold to give it some color .
I needed some more color to the back ground and decided to added me more shades of green to help pull from the picture.
I am really loving the splatters right now and they are the go to trick for me. I just have to remember to cover everything else around me.
Now just assembly the goods, I stage my layouts to see how the finished result will look. I used some burlap from the kit along with some scraps to make some layering. Then the pretty flower clusters
Enjoy the close ups, I love the shimmer of the layout.
I hope you enjoyed, lots of fun details on here.
