 Its a warm summer breeze as the ocean waves crash along the shoreline and in the back of our mind we know summer is coming to an end, but today, yes today we can still be carefree and Play in the Sunshine.
And with a fun palette from Echo Park;s collection to Fancy Pants Memorabilia we hold on to these last  days of  the  summer sun and entice you to  forget that before too long a  fall crisp breeze will fill the air.

Today I show you guys a background made with gelato, aquarelável brown pencil and plaster.

I think we all love butterflies and the Maya Road these masks are perfect for what I display.

I used paper Prima Life Time Collection as a base

I chose my photo and chalked where I want to put it

I chose the butterfly mask and walked around the entire shade with pencil aquerelável brown paper in random places.

Once inside painted butterflies, it was so fun!

With gelato in ocher did some scribbles on all butterflies

With a brush and wet fin softened the butterflies let dry.

Circled with brown pencil wetting the tip of it always

With a spatula spread the plaster around and on top of paper butterflies to soften a bit.

In the picture you can not see straight, but it was beautiful!

Something you might not know about me ... 

I love Christmas.  I truly do.  The build up to Christmas, the shopping for Christmas gifts, the wrapping, the creativity, the decorating, the gifting ... I love it all, the cooking ... everything.

And as far as I’m concerned, it’s never too early to start making Christmas cards and decorations for the festive period.

And wait for it ... I love traditional.  Call me a little old-fashioned ... but I love the traditional Christmas colours of green, reds, burgundy, gold, cream ... the rich, warm Christmassy colours.

This is what I have whipped up for you all ... an easel card and a ‘how to’ if you like ... it’s not difficult, in fact, it’s not even that time consuming ... here you go.

How have I put this card together ...

I’ve used white cardstock as my base, folded it in half and cut out my shape using a Spellbinders die and run it through my Cuttlebug.  I’ve folded the top back halfway and scored.  I’ve cut out another piece of cardstock using the die and adhered to the top half of my card.

I’ve then cut out two shapes using patterned paper, one adhered to the top of the card and I’ve torn it, to layer it a little.  For this particular card I am using a 6” pad from Kaisercraft ‘Belle’ ... gorgeous traditional Christmas colours.

Another piece of patterned paper through the Cuttlebug and this has been adhered to the inside of my card, or more correctly, the top of the bottom piece of card.

Remember how I said that I love adding bitsers to my creations, well I do.  I’ve turned the hot glue gun on and then I’ve glued down a little muslin [cheese cloth] and then glued down bitsers that I have raided from the leftovers of another Christmas project.  I’ve also used the white flowery piece from one of the Manorhouse Creations flowers that Alda has available in the shop.  I’m forever pulling things apart and re-using them on various projects when I create.

I’ve then glued a few Christmas baubles here and there, and added a little piece of fake Christmas tree branch as well.

I’ve made a seam binding bow and added a few baubles to the top of the card.  I’ve cut out a butterfly, which I have painted over with an irridiscent medium and dried and voila. 

Just like that.

Sticker Tip and A Secret Garden Card

Hi everyone!!

Lynne here, with an awesome tip for you scrappy projects!! You may already know this little gem, but I just learned it. Couldn't tell you where I saw this, and wish I'd have known this a long time ago, but here goes.....

I love all of my scrappy goodies....except.....stickers! Why? well, it's simple, once you put them down.... you're done! In the past, I've resorted to using foam tape (even when not necessary), backing my stickers with cardstock (what a pain to cut away the excess), or totally avoiding those pesky stickers!! 

Here's the tip that will revolutionize your scrapping! Yes, I said revolutionize!! Let's do this with pics....

Get your stickers

Then, you need some of this.....

wait....I'm not going 'Breaking Bad' on you.....here's a better shot....

Yes, baby powder...love that smell!

The site where I saw this, said to dust some baby powder on the back of your sticker, so it wouldn't be as sticky. Yeah, well...I don't want them sticky at all!!! So, I plunked down the sticker in the middle of a good size pile! And I made sure that all of the sticky-ness was covered in the powder. Once I was satisfied, I wiped the excess away with a dry cloth.

Try doing that without the baby powder! Does it work!! You bet it does!! NO sticking at all!! I was totally amazed!! 

I even put them down on my paper to prove my point!. NO sticking!!!

So I played with my non-stick stickers. I arranged and re-arranged them, and this is what I came up with....

Pretty cool, isn't it? I now have a little container of the powder sitting on my desk....you just never know when the opportunity might arise again, to play with stickers!!

Hi Everyone,

Rebecca back again to share with you a couple of projects created with the gorgeous French Country range by Graphic 45. This range is divine, all the papers are beautiful and as always with Graphic 45 they just all blend seamlessly together. 

Quite sometime ago I found this little key box buried in a sales box at a dollar store. Poor little box at the bottom of the pile, plain old pine box, just needed a home and a bit of sprucing up. Hello French Country you will bring some much loved beauty to this project.

With CHA here, I've been watching for some have to have papers from all the fabulous companies out there! I have to say every year, Prima has at least one collection I have to have and this year it's "OPTIMIST".

Hi, it's Erica! Today I'm sharing several cards I created using several different manufactures. The first card I created using the Forget-Me-Not Collection by Kaisercraft. I absolutely love the peach, blue and pink color combination seen within this collections pattern papers and embellishments.

ATC FUN WITH BUBBACHOOKA

G'day scrappers! Mish here, AKA Bubbachooka, Today I would love to share with you a couple of ATC's that I put together

after id finished a canvas and had a little bit of paint and sparkle left over. So rather than wash it away, I used it to knock up a couple of ATC's.....

The first 2 are steampunked up using the Lumiere halo green paint,

and some decorations you can find in the FUL store.....

This next ATC is a little bit different, I decided to make a 3D ATC

and I cut one of the ATC's into a coffin shape, and then

made a hinge and filled it up with a left over halloween decoration from last year.

I first inked the coffin shaped ATC, using pink and orange chalk inks, then I embossed the ATC shape

and used a black chalk ink to highlight the emboss....I used a spiderweb embossing folder.

the black ink gave it the desired highlight effect.

then i decorated it with a cut out from the steampunk spells paper available in the FUL store.

A little spider web ribbon, paper roses and an old left over prima vine, and Viola!!!!!

then I had to fill up my coffin......

I had a left over skeleton decoration, and some cheesecloth for the "mummy rags"

and Billy Bones is ready for action!

I added a bat just cause I had him left over! Looks like he flew in for a nibble

and is leaving! 

Another fun thing I made, purely for my scrap room door is a plaque for my friends and rellies to know what im up to!!!!! ( as if they didnt know)

its a canvas using inks and chipboard and some left over flowers and things.........

I have hung this on my scrap room door! so theres no doubt whos in there and what im up to!!!!!

Hi everyone!! Lynne here with my very first post as a CT!!

Today, I will be showcasing 2 products, Studio 490 Embossing Paste

in Metallic Gold, and Frantage Aged Scarlet Embossing Enamel. 

This picture of my soon to be DIL, Arelys, is one of my faves,

I think I've made about a half dozen layouts with it!! I started with

gorgeous papers from Riddersholm (Huntington Garden Collection),

for my background, and used a Prima stencil with the gold embossing paste.

This paste is soooo luscious! It goes on like butter, and looks divine! 

I didn't retouch this photo, just so you could see how gorgeous,

and elegant this product is!! I was so impressed with it,

that I just purchased the Metallic Silver.

I can see this embossing paste being used on so many projects,

from altered art, mixed media, and oh my God,

it would be stunning on wedding layouts!!

I pulled the carriage chippy from my stash, painted it with

craft paint in Dark Burnt Umber, let it dry, and pounced

some Liquitex Natural Sand Texture Gel on it.

A couple of coats of Molding Paste, would give you the same effect.

This created ridges, which I totally love.

Once it was dry, I used my Versamark embossing Ink,

and lightly dabbed it over the chippy,

and added the Aged Scarlet Enamel over top. Before heat setting,

I wiped away a bit more of the powder.

The ridges created by the pouncing, were further embellished

with just a touch of Inka Gold.

Since I was already going over the top with the gold,

I added some stitching with gold metallic thread and a FUL Adornment.

I cut the original flowers off of the Prima vine,

and replaced them with the Soprano flowers.

I also added a large Prima flower, as well as a few cherry blossoms and

2 misted cardstock doilies from my stash.

Today I want to show you how to use Lindy's Fusible Webbing.  This is a really fun embellishment and a unique way to add texture to your projects. 

You will need:

Lindy's Fusible Webbing - available in the Flying Unicorn store
Embossing ink - colors of your choice
Heat gun

 

 

 

 

 

Now that you've checked out my video, here are some projects that I used Lindy's Fusible Webbing on.

 

This first project was creating using items for the July Mixed Media Inspiration.  Its a canvas that I first misted using a Prima mask and then masked using Shimmerz Texturez in patina.  Then I added pieces of  fusible webbing  all around the outer edges to sort of frame the photo.  I used several colors of embossing powder - silver, aged wine, gold.

 

 

 

 

On this one I used gold UTEE on the webbing.

 

 

 

I love the look that fusible webbing gives to a project.  It adds a lacy textured look that is different from anything else.  I hope you'll give it a try!!

Mojo Monday on Sunday

That's  right its  Mojo Monday on Sunday ... a day early since our July  Mid Month Muse Kit  is being released  bright and  early at  12:01 am Monday, so not to conflict with the  release  - we are showcasing our sketch and our inspirational layout a day early .   

So without any further delay we present this weeks Sketch  created by me ( alda) and an  amazing  inspiration layout by Denise. 

" For my Mojo Monday LO, I used Prima Divine paper from the store. It quickly became one of my favorite collections!

I started by masking using Studio 490 Embossing Paste with the Prima Circular Lattice Mask. I then added some Texturz in Brick Wall and Patina for texture. I cut my photo into a circle so it would fit my Pink Paislee Artisan Elements Circle frame.

I used lots of Kaisercraft blooms and some Prima flowers too from the Flying Unicorn store! "

We are excited to announce our Next Guest Designer for our Mid-Month Muse–

Thats right.. its our very own Brenda aka Bitsy Howell. 

I am a mom of two grown sons that have recently married delightful young ladies. I am now waiting on the Baby Race to begin. In the meantime, I am retired and loving every minute of it. I realized when I sat down to write a bio that I have been a paper fanatic since my twenties. I still have a hardback suitcase that I collaged with Victorian Ladies cut from a calendar. I started scrapbooking about 10 years ago, back when everything was flat. Then, I began card making and even made a little money at that enterprise. I had lost interest in scrapping until I found the Flying Unicorn. My entire world did a little flip flop when I saw what Flying Unicorn had to offer. Here was a group of no drama people that scrapped in layers, added flowers and gushed with creativity! Oh, I was hooked. Within days I was chatting and being silly on the Forums and they welcomed me. I became an instant groupie and learned so much so fast that I could barely pull myself out of the scrap room.

My style still leans toward the Victorian Era, but it is becoming very hard to put my art into a “style” these days. I started art journaling over a year ago and am working on my 2nd journal now. Mixed Media has become my latest passion and I threw myself into it head first. I love to learn, and I research every new product that I come into contact with. Someday, I would like to teach classes but I have a lot to learn before that day comes!  I am still trying to find a way to pull my love for all things Victorian, shabby, steampunk and flowery into the world of Mixed Media and bright colors. Trust me though, I will find a way. Until then, stay groovy!

Sorry for the bad picture, put a chipboard frame  also painted with spray paint Fireworks.

This metallic paint is giving a very pretty effect!

This range is so rich and bold and just screams out to you to create, create and create. To show the huge versatility of this range I thought I would make a layout, card, OTP and a tag. Rather than waffle on too much about it all I think it is just best to speak in photos.

WCYDW Crinkle Seam Binding with Shona

Hi everyone…Shona here today with a couple of quick little tips for you. I have lots of this flat seam binding and this is how you can crinkle it.

 

1. Spray the seam binding with water and get it good and wet. OR you can use a mist and make what ever color you like.

 

2. Scrunch up the wet binding.

 

3. Use a heat tool to dry it.

 

4. while it is drying…unravel the binding and scrunch back up again and keep drying it.

 

5. This is the finished crinkle seam binding now. Ok lets make a bow now.

 

6. Cut a piece a couple of feet long and cut off one end piece about 5 inches long. Wrap the long piece around your hand…not too tight.

 

7. Remove from hand and pinch in the center.

 

8. Tie with small piece of binding. Sometimes I add some twine too.

 

  

These bows are fluffy and full and great fillers. And  you can make any color you like if you use a mist to crinkle it.

 

 

**Tips** with Shona

HI everyone…Shona here with your tip on how using 2 of the same photo can be so effective!

 

I find that it puts the focus on the photo more and really brings it to the center of attention in your creations. And many times that is what we want and this is such a simple way to make it happen.

 

 

You can even fussy cut out the same photo and it still makes the photo become the main part of the layout.

 

I do not always use a double of my photos but I love the affect that it has on my layouts.

 

 

You should all try it…it is fun!!!

"BAP with Tammy using KOM July "Sunset Dreams"

 Hi all! Here today to share my BAP LO with you, using our July KOM Sunset Dreams! I chose to use the Kaisercraft "Porcelain Rose" collection, and a bunch of the goodies from it as well. This is a fun and easy one to do hope you enjoy and play along with your own! So lets get started shall we!

1. Ink the edges of the base CS.

2.  Next Layer I punched the edges all the way around.. I only wanted just a hint of this to show. That was the reason I punched the edges.. Great for adding a little splash of color! 

3. This Layer I trimmed down to a 9 1/2 by 9 1/2 square.. I trimmed the non patterned edges on top and right side.

4. On this piece I did a little more to it. I wanted it to be the top layer. The stripes are a little distracting so I toned it down some with some masking.. Just lightly masked areas with the Prima "Damask" mask. I love this one it is my fave!  

5. Still not done with this piece.. After I masked it I misted it as well with some Lindy's "Cotton candy" and distressed the edges as well. After the edges was distressed I added on the edges lightly some ink Prima Branch bark. 

6. Time to prep our embellies! This awesome chippy came in the Embellishment addons. It is from Petaloo Color me crazy collection. I used the Dew drop Olive ink (actually came in another kit, don't remember which one) to color it with. Just padded it down with it.

7.  Fussy cut out this piece from one of the papers in the main kit.. Also fussy cut out my pic, that I am gonna use.

8. Inked the edges of all the little embellies that I had either fussy cut or from the die cuts that came in the embellishment addon.

9. I chose this cute little die cut to use to hold my title on. The "Adore" is a rubbon that was in the main kit.

10. Time to start arranging and laying our goodies down! Used a couple of the die cut strips to tuck under the top left and bottom right. Used the chippies in the opposite corners. My focal point being the lower left, that is where my pics and little die cuts go. I placed my chippy on top of the photo a little and tucked my title piece under a little. The fussy cut frame under my fussy cut pic. I just had to add in one of those cute little bird die cuts as well in the upper left. 

11. Weeeee my fave part of any LO that I am working on... THE FLOWERS!!! LOL.. I used the Petaloo (Pink and white) and Maya Road (large white) from the flower addon. From my stash I used some Dusty Attic Leaves and white flowers. I wanted them flowing from top left to bottom right sides of my LO.

11. Ok so that just wasn't enough flowers.. Had to add more!! LOL Top right looked so lonely and my Offray little pink and white flowers, and little pink bow just wanted to come out and play too!! LOL I almost forgot those darling sparkly vines from Magnolia, that came in the kit. Had to tuck those in too! 

I ended up adding the little Cherub just thought it added that last little touch! Here is the completed LO

My name is Michelle Frisby [aka Mrs Frizz on the forum] and guess what … I’m a little bit of a scrapaholic!

I live in New Zealand and jokingly say to one and all, somewhere near the bottom of the world … and I have to say, it’s close to it..

I’m married to the love of my life and have been forever and we have two wonderful children; our eldest has graduated from uni and is now living at the other end of the country and our youngest is 18 and in his first year at university.

I work full time as an executive assistant and when I’m not at work, you will find me in my scrappy mess, and I’m honest, it truly is a scrappy mess.  But it’s all mine and if anyone is looking for me, they know where to find me.

I love playing with paper … oops … that should read, I love being creative with paper!  It’s my ‘me’ time.  It’s what I do, to chill out, shall we say..

I also love taking photos and will be forever thankful to whoever it was that invented the digital camera.  Shame though that the digital camera wasn’t around when my children were younger.

So … I’m the one that is normally behind the camera instead of in front of it and I’m more than happy with that!!!

Paper, photos and scrapping supplies … what more could a girl want? ssssshhhhhhhhh ... flowers!!!

WDYCW - Rose Ink Bud-Chalk and Semi Gloss Acrylic Paint

Hello ladies!!

Today I show you guys the versatility of inks Ingvild Bolme associated with semi-gloss acrylic paint.

I loved this paper 13 @ rts so soft and delicate!

I have this lovely butterfly stamp and decided to use it

Some stamped around the center with Rose Ink Bud-Chalk

A splash of  Dylusion Ink Spray White linen 

With the acrylic paint Painterly Pink- Semi Gloss Acrylic Paint  I painted all the pieces of chipboard

 I decided to dissolve a bit of acrylic paint and put in the sprayer to spray the bottom I think you can see light pink splats

And I made a lighter shade with Rose Ink Bud-Chalk

  

With the 

Traditional Tan- Semi Gloss Acrylic Paint I painted the metal flower and it looks great!

I decided to lighten the pieces of chipboard with white acrylic paint

And again with a lighter shade Rose Ink Bud-Chalk

I also did the flowers shading.

I hope you enjoy and to experience how fun it is to mix the materials and even dilute your paints for the purpose and desired color.

Every Monday the Flying Unicorn posts a new sketch challenge.  You don't need to use our kits or supplies to participate in our challenges so come on over and show us what you can do with this gorgeous sketch  designed by  me - Alda, and the inspiration layout  by Maggi .

Maggi  used the July KOM, Sunset Dreams for her  take on the sketch.  Its a beautiful kit filled with Websters Modern Romance, Kaisercraft Porcelain Rose and Teresa Collins Summer Stories.  Maggi  mostly followed the sketch but she did add in a couple of circle outlines that came in the kit that would be fun on the  layout. Maggi's  image came from Twisted Papers.
