Hi everyone! Kelly here...
Earlier in the month I shared a mixed media canvas I created using the March KOM. Well, March is just about spent, but I have finally managed to finish the video for the canvas, and would love if you would check it out!
I will warn you, there are a few hiccups, my desk is a mess (as always), and there is no sound (sorry!) so turn up your favorite tunes and check it out, lol!!
Here is the finished canvas:
Thanks so much for watching!!!! Have a wonderful weekend!!!
I'm really kinda scared here, why is Escape Kitty sitting in a cage and what is that RANSOM note? It looks like Kitty has been catnapped!!
In case you didn't know, Escape Kitty is Jen's (jrabs) much loved cat. Jen recently joined us here on the Flying Unicorn forums and I know we are in for a real treat when she spins one of her Escape Kitty yarns and layouts. Its a long story, but a couple years ago my poodle, Chena stole our motorhome, picked Kitty up and the two of them headed to Alaska! Oh my what a fine adventure those two had frolicing with bears, wolves and such. But now....
OH NO! Gosh it looks like Chena is holding Kitty for ransom. Now why would Chena do that, Kitty is her bff, well they were bff's, but why have things changed? OK Jen, I swear, I had nothing to do with this, Chena grabbed her boots and Deputy Dawg hat and away she ran. I thought it was kinda strange that she was stealing newspapers in the neighborhood. I guess she was putting together a ransom note. Hmmm, can't quite make out the note, but I can see that it says "or the cat gets it". CHENA what are you DOING??? Please let Kitty go home, you'll go to jail for catnapping and the FBI (Feline Bureau of Investigation) will hunt you down! And even worse, Jen will never speak to me again and you know she's one of my bestest scrap buddies!!

Hi Unis!
It's Jax here with another installment of What Can You Do Wednesdays. Today I am sharing a project I made with the Prima Mixed Media Resist Canvas Covers, lots of sprays, flowers and embellishments.
If you've ever worked in a conventionally-bound art journal, you know the twin frustrations of bulging pages and not being able to embellish your album cover before your journal is complete for fear of not being able to have it lie flat when it's open. Enter the Prima Resist Canvas Covers - because you assemble the album as you go you can embellish the covers as you'd like, and work on each set of pages on a flat surface before adding them to your journal. You can buy a specialty pack of Prima pages separately which contains various different pages including watercolor paper, resist canvas, normal canvas and printed cardstock, or you can make your own.
Here is the album cover I created:
Hi everyone! This week Kelly and I are playing along with our Once Upon a Fairytale theme for March. Kelly has started this week’s theme with the Fairytale “Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs”, and I have created a layout to go along with this theme…BUT I have chosen a different look at it. I have decided to just taken some things from the fairytale title and implemented them into my layout.
Her skin is as white as snow. 7 Dwarfs…well 7 layers, 7 white flowers, 7 different colors, 7 types of embellishments and 7 letters in the title. I have used Kaisercraft 75 Cents Collection, Flying Unicorn Adornments and a Viva Décor Pearl Pen from the Flying Unicorn store.
So my challenge to you this week is…..what is your take on the Fairytale “Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs”? Maybe you will use some of the characters; maybe you will go more in the direction that I have taken? You can create anything for this…as long as you tell us what you have taken from the Fairytale “Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs”. Now go have some fun !

"One day Little Red Riding Hood's mother called her and said, 'Daughter, your grandmother is very ill. Please take her this pot of butter and some custard that I have made.' 'Very well, Mother,' said Little Red Riding Hood, and ran to get her little basket for the custard and the butter. 'Be careful,' said her mother, kissing her. 'Don't stray from the path, don't stop on the way, and don't speak to any strangers.'
Welcome to our magical month of March at Uni Land!! It is going to be a whimiscal month for all! It is our "Once Upon a Fairytale" month and we could not be more excited to share what we have in store for you!! Weekly inspiration and unique challenges that will capture the magic of creative fun!
I get to go first!!! This challenge will run from March 3-March 9th and will close at 8pm EST. A new weekly challenge will be posted on March 10.
My challenge for you is to make "Little Red Riding Hood's Basket"
This is a super fun tutorial and you can use this to make baskets for any holiday you want. Just use coordinating papers and embellies that go with the season you want to use it for.
For these baskets, I used Authentique's Uncommon collection.
I chose those papers because they are very very sturdy and you need a sturdy paper to work with.
So what you will need:
12x12 patterened paper/cardstock of your choice
12" long x 1" wide strip of coordinating paper (for handle)
pencil
scissors
paper scorer
paper piercer
ruler
4 brads
ribbon, flowers, embellies of choice
I will share two baskets I did. Done using the same technique with a slight variation. I always suggest reading thru tutorials before you begin.
Step 1-Taking your 12x12 paper, ruler and pencil, you will want to draw a grid of 9 squares, each 4 inches evenly. Be sure you do not draw your grid on the side you want as your outer paper for your basket. Your paper will look like this.
Step 2. Using your scorer, or just by hand, carefully fold along all lines.I fold both directions so it's nice and bendable when ready to work with.
Step 3- Take your scissors and cut the lower and upper middle squares up to the very center square. Do not cut all the way to the top. ( See pictures below)
Step 4-Fold up the squares you just cut and bring the two sides up to it. Like this.
Step 5- Holding in place, use your paper piercer to pierce a hole where your brad will go. This will hold everything together on that side.
Step 6-Attach brad thru hole to secure.
Step 7- REPEAT steps 4-6 on the other side of the basket. You're basket should look like this;
Step 8- The Handle- Using your 12"x1" strip of coordinating paper, decide how high/low/placement of your handle. Hold in place on one side and again use your piercer to poke a hole thru the basket and handle both.
Step 9-Attach brad to secure
This is what you should have. Now it is time to decorate!!
Here is a way to do a slight variation: Draw your grid the same way as above only cut out small semi circles on each corner as shown:
Use the same steps as above to put your basket together. You will see it has a little more curved look to it. This is my Little Red Riding Hood basket
Add some ribbon, pearls, lace, flowers...whatever your little heart desires to decorate your basket! You can do simple as I did, because I want to use it..or over embellish to your hearts desire!! It's all personal preference.
These baskets will be great for spring, Easter, Baby or Wedding Showers, Christmas, Valentines day...anything you can think of!! Remember to use a very sturdy paper so it stays stable and can be used!
I hope you have as much fun as I did making it!! Remember to upload your baskets HERE in the FORUM! I can not wait to see what you all come up with!!
So let's get busy creating!!
