Hey scrappers!
I just want to share with you all the OTP from the Jan kit "Carpe Diem"!
The OTP was a box and mini album and it was SO fun to put together!!
I loved the Magnolia papers that came with the OTP and used those as my background papers for the album.
I painted the box with sky blue paint and white washed it with some Gesso. I didn't get a good enough pic of the top of the box to share with you..sorry about that!
On the cover I used Magnolia papers, Prima resin piece, gesso, flowers and Platinum Liquid Pearls to outline the edges.
For the inside pages, I not only used the Magnolia papers but the cute Fancy Pants Country Boutique and some Pink Paislee Portfolio papers, tags and embellies. Here is a look at the inside pages
I always make sure to make pockets and tags in my mini's in case there is something memorable to write down.
I hope you enjoyed this month's OTP from the Flying Unicorn January kit "Carpe Diem"! I know I did! Just a reminder, we reveal our monthly kits now on the last day of the month prior. So February's kit will be revealed on January 31st at midnight EST!!!! And don't forget that Flying Unicorn is more than just a kit club! The STORE is always getting in the latest and greatest items and soon will be stocking up with new CHA goodies!!
Good morning!! Kelly here again, sharing my OTP projects from theJanuary KOM. This month we received a box, and a 6x6 mini album, with some 6x6 papers from Magnolia to go along with it.
I decided to not keep these together as a set, but to make them two separate projects. First up, the box:
Hey Unis! It's my turn to share with you this month's amazing OTP! I loved this mini album from the moment I opened my Flying Unicorn box!
I used a mix of the papers from the kit to cover the outside of the box. The letters are American Crafts Thickers. I misted some of the KaiserCraft lace and added a resin flower.
I added tissue paper to the top, the FabScraps butterflies, the aqua bling and a wooden bauble from my stash. I used all of the Magnolia papers from the kit to create the inside pages.
I added some black ink, tags from Fancy Panys (in the kit also) and some older ones from KaiserCraft and some pearls and other small embellies from my stash.
I had so much fun creating this mini and am really pleased with the way it turned out! I love that I now have a special place to showcase pictures of my kids when they were little.
Thanks for letting me share my projet with you. I can't wait to see what you all do with your mini albums!
Hi everyone. Shona here today with my Off The Page project from the yummy January Kit. This included a box and a mini album inside of it. So far I have the box done, not quite sure what I am going to do with the mini yet. I decided for the box, to go with a Finnabair style. She always uses so many gears and cool things so I gave it a shot. Warning this is picture heavy hehe.
I have used a crackle medium on the box sides and finished it off with some decoupage that we got in a kit last year.
For the top I have used lots of Dusty Attic chippys, Prima metal embellishments, Prima resin pieces, Prima chipboard from the Romance Novel collection, and some Tim Holtz Crackle paint, all from the Flying Unicorn store. I have also used lots of goodies from my stash such as flowers, lace trims, etc. Tip: when you do a project like this you can use up those weird colored items you will never use, because you are covering them with gesso anyways.
Here are a few more close ups. I had so much fun with this project and cant wait to make more. Have a great weekend everyone.
How many stamps do you own, honestly? If you're anything like me, you have an embarrassingly large collection of stamps that you've used once or twice, and maybe a few (or more - gulp!) that are still sitting pristine in their packaging (or on your harddrive) just waiting for that perfect project. Well, Unis, it's time to pull those stamps out, dust them off, and get stamping!
My challenge to you this month is to make a card using the same focal image at least 3 times. You can color it however your heart desires - with markers, colored pencils, paints, embossing powder, glitter, or even leave it au naturel.
For my example, I chose to layer my three stamped images on top of one another digitally, using a gorgeous stamp from the Norse Gods collection at Simply Betty Stamps and colored them using a brilliant technique to create the illusion of movement I found on Ruby Montes' blog. You do not have to use this technique on your card, but if you are interested in how the look is achieved please visit Ruby's blog (and note that the color codes on her blog refer to Spectrum Noir markers, so if you are using different alcohol markers they will have different color codes).
The papers are from the January Kit of the Month Carpe Diem, and the sentiment continues on the inside to read "You Can Run But You Can't Hide - Happy Birthday!".
Layering digital images that are .png files is easier than I could have ever imagined, and this coming from someone who is definitely graphically challenged.
To layer an image:
1) Import your image into Microsoft Word
On the Insert Menu at the top of the screen, select Insert Picture
Choose "From File"
Select a .png file from your computer and click Insert
2) Resize your image by dragging the border
3) Copy your image (Ctrl C on a PC or Command C on a Mac)
4) Paste your image (Ctrl V on PC or Command V on a Mac)
5) Right Click on your image
From the drop-down menu select Format Picture and drag the slider to adjust the transparency so that your new level will be more transparent than the top image
6) Right Click on your image again
From the drop-down menu select "Text Wrapping" and "Behind Text"
7) Drag your image to where you want it vis-a-vis the first image
8) Right Click on your image for a third time
Select "Arrange" and "Send To Back". This will make it so that you cannot see the parts of your lower images where they overlap your top image.
9) Repeat until you have the number of layers you desire.
Keep in mind this is not a requirement of the challenge, but I was so excited by this technique I couldn't wait to try it out, and hope that some of you might want to give it a go, too.
Here is a closeup of the image.
Hey everyone!! Denise here to share some layouts I did using the January kit "Carpe Diem". This kit is packed with Pink Paislee, Basic Grey, Fancy Pants, and so much more! The add ons are amazing and I really liked playing around with the little banners and envelopes in the Embellishment kit and of course the masks!!!
This first LO I did was fun to make..I LOVE this photo of my nephew and I chose some Basic Grey papers to use with it. I also used the Elongated Hexagon Mask from the main kit on the background..along with some stamping and painting.
Aren't the little banners and envelopes not the cutest?! I chose some flowers from the main kit along with the Prima Vine from the Flower Add On I distressed and layerd, and used scraps of paper to add on top of the main piece. I also have a large lid and swabbed some paint on it to make my circles. I framed the little man using one of the circles too for detail. And of course..I'm not a perfect paper puncher sometimes! lol I like the shabby look it gives. The Bo Bunny flowers were some of my faves to work with!
This next LO I chose to use some more BG sheets. I chose Peacock and Half Penny to work with. I did some layering, and stamping behind the picture. I also used the little TA Masks included in the Embellishment kit. I made the blue flowers out of the cardstock from the cardstock add on as well. I always like to have extra cardstock on hand..there is SO much you can do with it!! I added some Diamond Dust for a snowy effect on the vines and flowers. You can find it HERE in the store.
This last one I'll share is a pic of my beautiful neice's baby girl...little sister to the little man in the first lo.Not 100% happy with this one..but ah well..that is the way it goes sometimes!
My bird bath is crooked..lol but I do love the effect the Aged Embossing Enamel has on the chipboard!
Thanks for stopping by!!! I hope you were a lucky one and grabbed one of the kits! I just got my February kit and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! It is SO me!!! Can't wait to share that with you. I will be sharing my OTP in a couple of weeks!!
Happy Scrappin!
Denise
Hi everyone! Shona here today with a layout I have made using the yummy January Kit of the Month “Carpe Diem”. I so loved this kit and it was just jam packed full of so many awesome goodies. My layout today is my newest grandson, such a cutie pie. I have used the Basic Grey Serenade Collection in the kit. I have used 3 main layers in the background and have done lots of distressing and than I used some Tim Holtz Distress Ink on all of the edges.
The cute little banners and flags are part of the Kit Embellishment Add On. The Add On also comes with some Viva Inka Gold and I have painted the chippys with them. I just dipped a wet paintbrush into the container and painted them…it spreads so nicely when a bit of water is added.
The flowers are part of the Flower Add ON and I have added touches of the Viva Inka Gold to them also. The masking in the background is done with this Prima mask from the store and some molding paste.
Here are a couple more layouts that I have completed with the kit as well.
This kit just rocked and you could do so many styles with it from grungy to vintage to romantic. It really did cover all spectrums of scrappy styles and I had so much fun playing with it. I hope that you all have a fabulous week.
I've shared this feeling on the Forum before, but when my Flying Unicorn kit arrives every month, it feel like the scene where Indiana Jones opens the treasure chest and a golden light pours forth while triumphant music plays. The Creative Team have no idea what is arriving in our kit each month and as mine creeps its way across the Continent in a brown UPS truck other CT members tease Shona and I mercilessly about how wonderful the kits are, without divulging the contents.
I edged my papers with Prima Chalk Ink in Branch Bark, my go-to distressing ink. I have used this one so often that it is falling apart and I will have to replace it soon.
To keep with the soft color palette, I used the Lake Mist Paint Dabber included in the main kit to tone down the FabScraps chipboard butterflies, Kaisercraft wood flourish and corrugated cardstock from the kit. Hitting papers and accents with some paint, gesso or Picket Fence Distress Stain is one of my favorite ways to get elements to blend together on the page.
Hey everyone!! Denise here and I hope you were able to get one of the new fabulous January kits "Carpe Diem"! It is jammed pack with Basic Grey, Pink Paislee and Fancy Pants papers not to mention the awesome masks, flowers, chippies and bling!! I have been hearing lots of great things about our kits and one of the things we love to hear is they coordinate so well and they are PACKED with the best goodies!! They really are a great value.
I want to share with you the beautiful kit creations that our January Guest Designer, Ilene Tell, did for us!
Here is the first LO with a close up. I love this one..sooo cute!!Don't you love how she recycled the Prima packaging??!!
I really like how you can use the kit papers for boy or girl. Ilene did a great job showcasing this kit I think!
How adorable is this!! Love the layering and how she used the Ink A Gold on the butterfly.
The OTP that comes with the kit is awesome! I love the little mini, Magnolia papers and box. Ilene is still working on her mini, but got her box done to share with us and I have to say it's a fave for me! I LOVE this vintage, shabby feel it has..is it not stunning?!
I love how she used the corragated board that is included and made it for the top of the box..look at all this detail!
I can not wait to see her mini album!!!!
Well thanks for stopping by today!! I do hope you run over to the STORE and grab yourself a kit if you haven't already...and don't forget the add on's!!! They are so nice to have to use with your main kit!
