Hi everyone and Happy Thanksgiving to all my US friends out there! While the boys in the house are watching some football on TV, grab a cup of coffee or tea and sit back and enjoy a Build a Page tutorial featuring the NEW 7 DOTS Thoughts Keeper collection and lots of other goodies from the Flying Unicorn store. Ok lets get started!
Let's get creative and what better time to get a little more creative than with me on Playdate Thursday.
Let's make a canvas, that really isn't a canvas. Well it started life as a canvas and has since been tweaked a little.
Rip away the canvas material itself and take it right back to the wood.
Now if you rip the canvas reasonably gently and keep it fairly intact, keep it aside in your 'pile of things that shouldn't be thrown out' ... you might just be looking for a piece of canvas one day to bring it back to life].
You don't need to worry about those little imperfections, no need to sand anything anywhere - honest.
Now grab a paint brush and some gesso and cover the wooden frame inside and out and around the outsides.
If it makes it easier and quicker for you, I've been known to finger paint on said gesso.
Now you can wait patiently for this to dry or assist the process by using your heat gun. When I am creating one of these, I want to keep going and you guessed it, out comes the heat gun.
So now your frame is looking like this - easy, peasy
Now it's time to choose a colour for your frame. On my frame I used 13 Arts Chalk Blue Light Ayeeda Mist ... it goes a long way and it's fabulous to use.
I applied with a paint brush and let it dry.
I then gave another quick coat as well and let that dry as well.
Next I randomly applied some magic mesh and using my fingers and some modelling paste I applied over the mesh, waited a few seconds, know idea how long really to be honest and gently lifted the mesh and placed it elsewhere and did the same thing over and over again, just to add a little texture.
I grabbed some rub ons and randomly applied them - it does matter if any of the rub ons don't rub on as such, you don't have to be overly particular.
Can you tell this is one of those projects that doesn't have to have everything 100% just right.
Now it's time to decorate and embellish - any way you want to.
On the top of my wooden canvas, that isn't a canvas - I've embellished with a little muslin [cheesecloth], A Petaloo flower, some leaves and some pearls, the word 'smile' and the wee chalkboard frame that you can see peaking out both came from a previous Flying Unicorn monthly kit.
Now a wee tip ... what you can't see is that I have used a wee wooden cotton reel tucked in behind the Petaloo flower to hold it up a little.
I had my darling husband find me some hooks and he screwed them into my frame top and bottom on the inside of the frame and then I threaded through twine and attached some gorgeous Petaloo hearts to let them hang. The hearts were in a previous monthly kit.
The butterfly was a little too blue against the wooden frame, so I tweaked it a little and toned it down somewhat by applying some distress paint with my finger tips.
and again, in its entirety ...
Thank you for joining me for Playdate Thursday.
Happy creating everyone.

Don't you just love the November Kits?!! They are so gorgeous!!! And so versatile!
This month I had the opportunity to do a Build A Page for you......and I have a process video for you. But first, the layout........
And here's the video........
And a few closeups.....
The Prima resin birds are so beautiful! I couldn't resist adding both of the large ones.
You didn't see this on the video, but I went around the edges of the 'Dream Big' chippy with the Pumice Stone Distress Marker.
The Prima Vellum flower.....went through a couple of changes....I added a bit of Lindy's Starburst Spray in A Bit o' Bubbly in the center.
Hope you enjoyed!!
