Flower Fantasy week 4 challenge

Our challenge for the last week of Flower Fantasy is to make a tag featuring flowers!  Manor House Creations and the Flying Unicorn have teamed up to fill the month of May with lots and lots of flowers!  Join us here for the tag challenge.

 

Super fun Heart Rose ~ Laura

I adore this flower! I learned the first few steps form Helen Croft but I changed the sizes added an extra step.

To begin with you will need some

punched hearts - 3 @ 3/4", 4 @ 1", 5 @ 1 1/4", 6 @ 1 1/2

paper piercer

brad

ink, paint, or chalk

 

Step 1

Punch your hearts and edge the hearts

Step 2

pierce a hole in the bottom of each heart

Step 3

turn a brad upside down and add the smallest hearts like this

Step 4

Continue with the other sizes

when you flip it over it will look like this

Step 5

petal by petal scrunch them up around the brad like this

when you are done it will look like this

Step 6

This is where Helen stopped but I like it better this way

using your skewer roll back each petal of each heart

Shabby Chic Fabric Flower

Let's make some pretty Flowers  ... 

01. Use  your  1-2" circle and  cut  8  circles  out  of your  medium  ( I am  using  fabric you can use mulberry paper/ tissue / not  cardstock or paper) 

 02. Your  tiny  circle  ( I am  using an  1/2" circle and  fold in half both ways to get the  middle  ( I placed a red  dot for  tutorial ease-DO NOT EYEBALL IT - YOUR FLOWER MAY TURN OUR  LOP SIDED)

03. Fold one  of your circles in half

04. Place a  dot of  glue in the  middle  and  fold in half  again (hot glue gun does work best)

05.Place another  dot of  glu  and  glue the  petal  to the  circle - using your middle point as the mark.  

 06. Do this 4  more times - working clockwise  and layering a  little of each petal .. The  bottom tier has 5 petals .

 07. You  should   end up with   something that  looks like this :

 08. Cut your three remaining circles in half.  then trim off 1/8" from the  straight  edge (  you want layer two to be a tiny bit  smaller than   bottom layer)

 09. Do a running  stitch along the  straight edge of the  circle.  ( 6  of them )

 10. Gather the thread .. play  with  it .. and  do not  gather  too tight .. just  tight  enough  to form   a  nice  circle . Cut  off  excess  thread .

 11. Place a  dot of glue on the   bottom  layer (5 petals) and  place the   top layer ( 6 petals)  on top

 12. Glue  your  center  piece  and   voila ....  Our   pretty   flower !

Simple and quick rose

Hi everyone...Laura here...I love making flowers but sometimes I don't have a lot of time so I use this one a lot....again I did not create this one but I do use it a lot...I wish I could give credit where credit is due but last year my computer crashed and I lost it...sorry!

so to start you will need three five petal flowers (I use my cricut George cartridge but you can use any one...the Tim Holtz die works great too)

hot glue gun

a skewer or something you can use to roll your flowers

one flower  - one you need to cut one petal off

using flower one (the 4 petal flower) glue petal 1 and petal 4 together so it looks like this

The gently roll back the petals with your skewer

flower two you will need to cut two petals off (looks like a heart)

using flower 2 (the three petal flower) glue petal 1 & 3 together

and roll back like you did with the first flower

on flower three you need to cut an X in the middle

then roll back the petals

The single petal you cut off of flower one you will glue the edges together then roll back like this

The two petals you cut off of flower #2 you will glue the edges together and roll back like this

 

Place some glue on the single petal and insert into the double petal like this....

Glue your first two flowers together like this....

glue the smaller flower onto the larger one....you may need to trim the bottom part of the cone to fit them together

When you are ready to adhere it to your page I suggest hot glue or another form of sturdy glue as it is a little heavy and you will need to cut off the cone bottom so it will sit on your page!

Rolled Felt Flowers!

Hi Everyone!

Happy Tuesday! Frank here, sharing another easy, and simple tutorial with minimal supplies and steps!

For this awesome rolled flower you will need:

• A 2-3in wide x 12in long strip of felt, the longer the felt the larger your flower.
• Scissors
• Hot Glue

Take your strip and adding some glue to the EDGES ONLY not the center fold it in half, only the edges should have glue to hold it in place.

With your scissors begin making cuts on the FOLDED side not on the side we glued on, the cuts shouldnt go all the way through, just barely to the edge.

Next begin rolling it, add dabs of glue as you go so it will hold in place.

After you completely roll it, add a generous amount of glue to the bottom to hold everything together.

You are done! Arent these so pretty!!!

Heart of Flowers

What you need :

· Ball Stylus

· Foam Mat /Mouse pad

· Fast drying Glue

· Eleven Hearts

· Six Star Snowflake for base

· Embellishment

STEP ONE :

Ink, Angel Mist, Stamp 11 hearts if plain cardstock is being used .

STEP TWO :

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP TO MAKE THE FLOWERS LOOK SOFT AND ESQUISITE . Using a foam mat/mouse pad and the stylus on both the front and back of the heart roll in circular motions softening the cardstock. Do this for all 11 hearts .

STEP THREE:

Pinch the end of the heart to form a triangle and then press down to have a flat bottom .

STEP FOUR:

Punch one snowflake and cover with glue. Place one heart petal unto snowflake sr and repeat for each snowflake star.

STEP FIVE:

Use the last 5 hearts as the second layer of the flowers. Place the first heart petal in a crevice of two bottom heart petals. Let Dry.

STEP SIX :

Once dry arrange a fluff petals . Embellish the center with snowflake, button, brad, rhinestone, etc. Use a marker to draw small veins from the center out . Use stickles or glossy accent to further embellish the petals.

Sugary Lovely Flowers in 3 Easy Steps!

Hi Everyone!

Happy Sunday! Frank here sharing a quick and easy tutorial to make some sugary flowers! All you need is:

• Flower Punch or the basic punched flowers.
• Diamond Dust or Coarse Glitter
• Glossy Accents
• Hot Glue
• Heat Tool (Optional)

 

Layer 2 or more flowers and using your hot glue gun adhere them together, take an embellishment and place it in the middle, I used a pearl here.

Take glossy accents and generously apply some on the petals and around the embellishment.

Take your diamond dust, or coarse glitter...

Pour some on top of the flower, cover all the parts evenly.

You are DONE! Aren't these super FAB! Love them!

Sandflowers

Tracey here! Here are some cute beachy flowers for you!

Organza Flower

Hey flower friends! Denise here to share with you an easy flower tute using some pretty organza material!

What you'll need:

3 smalls squares of Organza
Scissors
Lighter
Tweezers
Button for center
Hot Glue Gun

(I didn't include my glue gun in the picture but you will need it)

Cut 3 circles freehand out of your organza. It's ok if they are not perfect! Don't worry about that. You can cut the same size or vary your sizes. I like to do both.

Using your tweezers to hold your circle, slowly burn the edges of each circle. Do a little at at time being sure not to burn too much or yourself! The fabric will curl as it melts. This is what you want.

When you're done..this is what they should look like.

After burning your edges, you can layer and glue your circles adding your flower center last. Buttons work great for centers!!

 

My pictures aren't the best as I had to use a different camera..these flowers are really pretty and you can layer up to 5 layers if you'd like. Just be sure to lay bigger circle on bottom and work your way up. I hope you try this out and have fun with it!!! Be sure to post your finished product in the flower fantasy section!!

Glimmer mist/perfect pearls flower ~ Laura

Hi everyone!  Today we are going to make a fabulous grungy flower!  I love this one and make it all the time although I did not design it, I did alter it o fit what I need but the original is by Chris416ward.

Do create this flower you can do it two ways.  You can use some white paper and your glimmer mist to change the color to what you want (the white paper that comes in your scrapbooks/page protectors is wonderful) or what I did was use my patterned paper and the Tim Holtz perfect pearl mist available at the store!

to start you will need

pearl mist/glimmer mist

glass bead or pearl for center

hot glue gun

glove if you have one and you are using glimmer mist or you will be scrubbing your hands

for the flowers you can use your cricut, flower punch or Tim Holtz die or any other flower you can can get 3 sizes from...I use 1 - 1", 2 - 1 1/2", 2 - 2" flowers

heat gun if you have it

 

Spray both sides of your flowers with your mist

scrunch them up...not so much you can't get them apart without ripping them.

unfold them carefully but leave them wrinkly

dry them with your heat gun if you have one....leave them a little damp so you can mold a little...I use a skewer to hold them so I don't burn my fingers

glue your two large ones together...alternating so your petals are alternating

Using your thumbs on the middle, kind of mold your flower up like this

do the same with your next size two (the 1 1/2")

glue your glass bead into the middle and kind of fold up your flower around it

Glue your three flower levels together and fluff the petals

and that is your finished flower!

Punched Branch flower tutorial

Hi everyone...Laura here....I adore this flower.....it is so simple to make but is perfect for using up all the little tiny pieces you have left over after your done creating your projects.....I can not take credit for this one, I saw it made by Carlies first.

So to start you will need

a branch punch

a 1 1/4 circle

scrap paper

liquid glue

button, gem or whatever you want for the center of your flower

punch between 35 - 40 branches using your different scrap papers

put glue in the center of your circle.  Start placing the branches, alternating papers, so the bottom of the branch is in the middle of the circle.  Do one layer

add glue to the center again and do a second and if you wish a third layer

add your center to the flower and allow to dry.

a quick easy flower that you can use any color on!

**My Maggi Magnolia Flower** ~ Tammy

Hello everyone, I would like to show you how to make my "Maggi Magnolia" named after the wonderfully sweet CT member and friend Maggi Harding. I had done one on a LO that I had done earlier this year and loved making it and hope you do to!

Supplies needed:

2inch circle punch (note mine is a scallop punch that I trimmed off the edges of the scallop), 1 1/4 circle punch, 7/8 sun punch, White or iridescent mist, Ink color of your choice, White and brown CS, Shaping tool, stick, tweezers, scissors, spongy mat, glue quick drying.

Step 1. Petals and Base:

You will need to punch 6 Large circles, 4 small circles. Set one large one aside for base.  

Cut all petals as picture shown. Basically notching top and each lower side of the circle.

Step 2. Coloring Petals:

Color all with ink of choice on top part edges front and back. Pounce same color on bottom of each petal like shown. Then mist with the white or iridescent mist.

Step 3. Shaping:

Shape petals as shown in below pics. Using a stick rolling top edges back  and then take tweezers grasp in center then pinch sides slightly inward to finish petal shape. Petals need to be slightly damp.

Step 4. Gluing petals:

Take 5 large petals to base. Like the pictures shown below. Glue down slightly over lapping the next one as you go. 

Step 5. Gluing down center petals:

Glue down 4 smaller petals like shown in picture below. Make sure to kinda bend down at the end of the petal to make it stand up. Not a complete bend, just a slight one. I always put a puddle of glue in the center to start this process. Again slightly over lapping them. After you have them arranged let dry and make centers.

Step 6. Centers:

Punch 3 sun shapes and litely mist with same iridescent color. 1st sun shape on mat with tool. Rolling in center with a circle motion. Your center should rise. Next 2 sun shapes cut in the center of rays one sun shape little more than the other. Being very careful not to go all the way through. then shape like the first one rolling in the center in a circle motion. you should see them standing up the deeper the cut the more tighter it will go together. On the last one gently pinch it in a little tighter. Now glue pieces inside the other. Should look like last pic when done.

Step 7. Attaching center and final result:

Glue center in the middle of your bloom and your done! Here is what it looks like when completed.

Sassy Snip Flower Tutorial

 

Denise here to share with you an easy peasy flower tutorial!

Now I'm not sure if anyone else has come up with this flower before, but I was playing around one day and this is what I came up with. My daughter gave it the name Sassy Snip Flower.

This flower is super easy and it can be made as small or as big as you like.

What you'll need:

5-6 petal flower punch or you can use your Cricut or other die cutting machine. I used the flower from George's Basic Shapes Cartridge.
Cardstock
Scissors
Adhesive (I used a dab of hot glue)
Flower center such as gem, button, etc.
Ink/Mist optional

Instructions:

Start by punching or die cutting your flowers using colored or white cardstock.
You will need 2-3 flowers all different sizes. You can make this as big as you'd like.it's just a personal preference. I used 3 flowers in sizes 1" , 1"1/4" and 1 1/2 ".

If you used white cardstock and  want to mist your flowers, do so now. Let dry

 

After punching/cutting your flowers. Take your scissors and carefully 'snip' your petals making v shaped snips. You will want to do this at least twice on each petal. If your flower is larger you may have to do more snipping. Do this to all your flower petals.

Now add your dab of glue to the smaller flower and layer on top of the bigger one being sure to offest them. Add your center now if you'd like or you can wait until last. Carefully lift each layer of the flower and curl ever so slightly. Do not curl the bottom layer. You can also leave each layer flat for a different look. Try it both ways!!

Ink the edges in desired color if you'd like.

 

You can add leaves if you'd like as well. Here is a pic of some of these flowers I used in a layout.

 

I hope you get to make these easy to do flowers!!! They don't take long and are really cute!!

Vintage Bloom

I love doilies and collecting vintage odds and ends for my layouts.

Here is a bloom you can easily make by raiding your scrap stash.

Altering purchased flowers

Maggi here - Making flowers is a great way to add a unique element to your projects, but it is time consuming.  I like to combine handmade flower techniques with store bought flowers.  I use one simple technique on most of my store bought flowers, simply mist, twist and stack.  That’s all there is to it.  These are the Prima Sprites that came in the May kit.

 

 

I usually chose 2 or 3 flowers and lay them out on my craft mat.  Then I spritz them with mist or water.  If I am misting them to alter the color,  I usually give them a heavy spritzing.  Then I partially dry them as they will not hold their shape in the next step if they are too damp.

Take your tweezers and grasp a single petal and give it a quarter turn.  Do this to each petal, if the petal does not hold the twist it is probably still too damp.  After twisting each petal, use a heat gun to dry the flower front and back.

 Then stack  your layers gluing each layer and staggering the petals so that they are don’t line up with each other.  You can see that just that twist to each petal gives a flat flower dimension.

 

Add a gem, tiny rose, button, to the center and you are done!  I used a pearl for these flowers. 

Here are some other flowers that I made using the same technique.

All the flowers in the picture below except the olive colored one and the rosebuds were made using this same technique.  You can see that the effect changes with the shape of the purchased flower and by varying the center you can get a lot of different looks.

 

Here’s one other simple technique.  All I did to these purchased flowers was to ink the petals heavily  with Moonlight White pigment ink and add a gemstone to the center.  The ink gives them the luminescent look.

Now I want to see you turn your flat flowers into garden beauties!

FOR A 1"CIRCLE CUT 18"OF RIBBON AND TIE ONE END OF THE RIBBON INTO A KNOT . STEP THREE :

GLUE THE KNOTTED RIBBON IN THE CENTER OF THE CIRCLE STEP FOUR :

KEEP THE RIBBON FOLDED IN HALF TWIST AND TURN THE RIBBON AROUND THE CIRCLE GLUING EVER LITTLE BIT OF WAY .. PLEASE WATCH YOUR FINGERS AT THIS POINT .... STEP 5 :

FINISH BY TUCKING THE END UNDER STEP 6 : ADD BRAD/ BUTTON ETC TO THE CENTER OF THE FLOWER .... READY TO USE IN YOUR NEXT PROJECT ....

May KOM Part 2

Hi everyone…its Shona again and I am back with some more KOM projects for May. What a gorgeous kit and there is so many ways to use the different paper collections.

 

First I have an easel card that I have made with the Inkado papers. I have never made one and it was fun to make. The cardstock in the back is from the cardstock add on.

 

I added a doily some punched butterflies from the scraps, a camoe and some flowers.

 

My next two projects are with the Melissa Frances papers. For the title SHE I have used the transparencies that are in the KOM and some inks on them. You saw this layout a couple of days ago but here are all of the close ups now. Lots of punching, inking, masking and distressing. The Chippys are from my stash and are Dusty Attic but they are in the store here.

 

My last layout I have done lots of distressing and inking as well.

 

For the textured background I have used a prima mask and covered it with molding paste. Once that is dry I added some distress ink to it.

 

All of the colourful flowers are the flat ones in the kit. I have misted them and scruched them up. When they dry just unfold and layer them.

 

I added a couple of tags cut from the papers and some chippys to finish it off.

Shabby Chic Flowers

Hi everyone, Shona here and today I have a flower tutorial for you. It may have bits and pieces from tuts I have seen but this is the flower that I have come up with and I have put my own little touches on it.

Supplies Needed

flower punch – 5 or 6 petal one.  I use my cricut for these

glimmer mist and water mister

stamens

glue

gesso

ink pad

tweezers or something to curl the petals

First step is to cut out 5 flowers. I used 2 large and then the next 3 went down a size on each one. For my smaller flowers I might only use the 3 smaller flowers. I first mist them with glimmer mist then with water to get them wet enough to mold, but do not soak them or they will tear easily.

While they are wet, fold each pedal under with the scewer (I used a paint brush handle) and pinch the pedal as you do.

After you have pinched all of the flower push the paint brush tip into the center of each and pinch and fold them up.

This is what they look like all scrunched up. You can let them air dry or use a heat tool to speed up the process.

Carefully unfold each flower. At this point if you like you can ink the pedals. I only did on the blue flowers.

Punch a hole in the center of the smallest flower and add fold the stamens in half and insert into the hole..cut off the ends and glue them into place on the back of the flower.

Now start to layer the flowers, alternating the pedals and gluing them into place.

I now paint on bits of gesso in random places on the flower.

Ok that is it, these flowers are super easy to make. I actually cut out one sheet of cardstock and have enough for about a dozen of them. I will color them as I need them. Here are my finished flowers and a couple of close-ups on projects I used them on. Now go get your fingers are dirty like mine..have a fantastic weekend everyone !

Flower Fantasy Week 2 challenge!

There were lots of gorgeous layouts posted for week 1 Flower Fantasy layouts.  Designers from Manor House Creations and the Flying Unicorn have teamed up to make gorgeous flower laden cards to inspire you.  Go here to see this week's Flower Fantasy card challenge.

Red Poppy Flower Tutorial from Maggi

You will need: Cardstock for your flower and for your centers

 Alterations Tattered Floral die or something similar

McGill starburst punch

 McGill sun punch

Glimmer mist - I used Vanilla Breeze on the red Cardstock and Olive vine on the olive cardstock

Distress ink - pumice stone water spritzer (not pictured)

Glue - I use Diamond glaze and hot glue

For the large flower cut 2 large flowers, 3 sunbursts and 4 suns.

For the small flower cut 2 small flowers and 4 sunbursts. 

Spritz the flowers and the suns with a little water.  Don't get them soaked, it isn't necessary and makes them harder to work with.

For the large flower:

Take the 3 sunbursts and glue them one on top of the other staggering thestarbursts so they don't exactly line up with each other.  Spray with a little olive vine glimmer mist and set aside to dry.

Scrunch the petals of the two large flowers with your fingers.  I place my fingers on either side of the petal and push towards the center.

Take something thin like the handle of a paint brush and place in the center of the sun and then wrap the sun around the paint brush handle.  Do this to four of the suns.

Now dry the flowers, the suns and the starburst. I use my heat gun to dry them but you can leave them to airdry.  After you have dried the flowers, ink the tips of the petals with distress ink.

TIP:  I keep a box lid with 3" sides handy and I put my damp flowers in the box lid to dry.  That way they don't blow all over the place when I am drying them.

                                      

Assembly:  Take one of the suns and carefully spread it out enough so that you can glue another sun inside.  Glue these two suns inside a third sun and then glue the three inside the 4th sun.  I paint a little glimmer mist on the suns at this point and then dry them.  If you have used hot glue to glue the suns together, be careful when heating as the glue will melt.

Glue the two flowers together staggering the petals and spray with glimmer mist for a nice shimmering effect.  (You can also spritz your flowers with glimmer mist when you are scrunching the petals instead of water but since I am using red cardstock I don't really need to soak the cardstock with color so I just give a spray at this point.)  Use a paintbrush handle to curl the petals inward.  Now you are ready to assemble the flower.  Be sure everything is dry before assembling!  Glue the starbursts to the flower and then glue the 4 assembled suns to the starbursts.

Now take your tweezers and spread the suns out a little.  Pick up the individual "stamens" from the starburst and lift so that the overall effect is "fluffed"  And that's all there is to it!

The procedue for the small flower is exactly the same except that I omit the starbursts underneath the 4 suns.  You can also cut between the petals so that you have more "petal" to scrunch.

Ok then, lets make poppies!

Petaled Ribbon Flowers

Use your stash of ribbons and make petaled ribbon flowers.What you need :

- ribbon

-straight pins

-scissors

-thread ( I always use embroidery thread for this technique )

-embellishment for center of flower

- octagon template

TEMPLATE : IN THE FILE SECTION OF THE FORUMS 

STEP ONE :

FOLLOW THE FORM AND TURN THE RIBBON AT THE CORNERS AND PIN THEM ( MAKE SURE THE PINS ARE SECURE )

MAKE SURE TO LEAVE A LITTLE EXTRA RIBBON AT THE STARTING POINT STEP TWO :

COMPLETE THE ENTIRE TEMPLATE BY TURNING THE RIBBON AT EACH CORNER ( AGAIN i HAVE TO STRESS MAKE SURE THE PINS ARE SECURED IN PLACE TO HOLD DOWN THE CORNER TURNS ) STEP THREE :

STITCH THE OUTSIDE PART OF THE OCTAGON USING THE STRAIGHT STITCH METHOD . DO NOT LIFT FROM TEMPLATE OR TABLE TURN THE FLOWER BUT LEAVE IT ON A FLAT SURFACE !

AFTER STITCHING REMOVE THE PINS STEP FOUR :

CUT AWAY THE EXTRA ENDS STEP FIVE :

PULL THE STRINGS TOGETHER AND TIE IN A KNOT IN THE BACK TO FORM THE FLOWER . STEP SIX :

EMBELLISH CENTER OF THE FLOWER YOUR WORK IS DONE .. ADMIRE IT !

Hope you liked this technique .... flowers are more formed using this then the regular straight line ribbon method .

Shona's May KOM Projects.

Hi everyone…its Shona again and I am back with some of my KOM projects for May. What a gorgeous kit and there is so many ways to use the different paper collections. My first layout is made with the BoBunny collection and is called. Explore. I have done lots of distressing and inking on the edges and used a Prima brick mask stamp with gesso in the background.

 

I used the matching papers to make the rosette flowers banner tags and leaves.

 

My next layout is made with some of the Melissa Fransis and 6X6 inkado papers.

 

I painted the chipboard piece black and added in a black title piece.

 

The butterflies are punched from the same papers and I inked the edges and added some liquid pearls to the centers.

 

For my last projects for today I have used the KC papers in the kit. Adore is my first layout with these papers. I have done lots of punching and used my Prima Gate mask in the background.

 

The flowers are all from Manor House and I have misted the brown ones to make them match my layout.

 

My final layout for today is called Us…me an hubby. Once again I have misted all of the Manor House flowers except the big white one.

 

I have added in a couple of Dusty Attic chippys from the store here and finished it off with some liquid pearls. That is it for today. I have many more projects that I have created with the May KOM and they will all be posted in the KOM group page. 

Punch Flowers

Hi Everyone! Shona here with another super simple flower tut!

Supplies:

2 punched flowers

gems

ink

water to mist them

 

You will need 2 punched flowers, or you can use your cricut to cut them out. I first ink the edges on the petals. Next step is to mist them slightly with water and use a skewer stick or pencil to fold the edges down. You can either let them air dry or use a heat tool to dry them.

Glue the 2 flowers together off setting the petals. Add a gem to the center and whalla you done. These flowers are always great to use up scraps of paper when making your project.

Sweet Embrace Creations

Hey everyone! Denise here to share some kit creations using the new May kit "Sweet Embrace!"

This month's kit was filled with some gorgeous papers, flowers and embellies! The OTP was fun for me as I love to make mini's!!

I made the OTP (paper bag album) for my neice who has a new baby girl. I used the 6x6 Inkido papers included with the kit and lots of Manor House flowers!! Here is the cover and a few peeks of the inside

The Fancy Pants transparent goodies that come with the kit are super fun to make. I used Glimmer Glam and alcohol inks to color.

I love painting, misting, masking..working with all different types of mediums! In this lo I did lots of distressing using Melissa Frances Papers from the kit. I also used Crackle Paints, Distress inks and a little gesso...

If you are one of the lucky ones who got a kit this month, you'll see how much more beautiful this paper is in real life..the pictures don't do it justice! I took a small brush and lightly brused some Gesso on the flowers..

**Exotic Alda Lily**

Hey all, Tammy here! Welcome to my Flower tutorial on making my "Exotic Alda Lily"! I always name my flowers after someone so this one is for my sweet Alda! I wanted to name this one for her, because she and the team sent me some of the most beautiful flowers I had ever seen in my life when my FIL pasted away.. They had the most Gorgeous lilies in the arrangement. Now every time I see a Lily I think of the kindness I was shown during that hard time for my family and me.. So with out further a due.. Here is the supplies you will need to make this beautiful bloom!

White CS, Winter Woodland Cart, Mcgill Snowflake punch, Zig fine tip memory marker ( I think its size is .01), Ink of choice ( I used on this one TH "Victorian Velvet" Distress stain, Mist that is iridescent or a mica that is, Scissor sharp tip, Tweezers, Shaping stick, Shaping tool ( I use a BG rubbon tool hey it works!) and mat, Stylist, Glue and pearl is optional.. I have used it with and without..

Here is the sizes I used for this tute 1 3/4 and 2 3/4, but have used different sizes also! That is why I love my Cricut  for flowers I can adjust the sizes!  You will also need 2 snowflakes punched.

 

First step

Cut the Shapes above following cutting instructions in pic. Do this on both pieces..

2nd Step

Color both pieces. On the edges you want to color front and back. For the center just the front of both pieces. Like pics

3rd Step

Now add Veins and Dots... My veins don't look as good as they normally do but for the sake of the tute I pressed forward! LOL On the smaller one I don't add veins. You can if you want too though..

4th step

You are ready to add you mist or mica. Then start shaping with tweezers and stick after you mist or mica them. You want them damp, not soaking wet to shape. This locks in the shape that you give them. Here are pics showing this process.

 After you finish doing both of those steps on both pieces all the way around. Then dry if still damp. Now we are ready for final shaping with spongy mat ( I use a foam mat that I made gluing 2 sheets of foam from Walmart together. It is well used so forgive the shape that it is in! lol) and a shaping tool.. I use a BG rubbon tool that I have. But have also used a ink pen top that has a smooth rounded end to it. I don't have any fancy tools to work with. lol So I use what I have! Here is a pic showing this process. Go in a circular motion. This helps bring the petals up some so they are not flat and look more life like.

Here is what they should now look like.

Now your ready to glue the 2 together. Off setting them a bit. Now mist your snowflakes with same color of mist or mica you used for the main pieces. Dry quick with the heat gun and your ready for the next step.

5th step

Now shape your snowflake with stylist like pic shows. You want the snowflake prongs to stand up, by pressing in the center of them on you spongy mat. Then glue them together.

 

Now your ready to add to the center of your flower and put a pearl if you like. Either way I think they are beautiful! Here are the final pics.

May Kit Of The Month Sweet Embrace

Hello everyone!!

Happy Friday Afternoon!

Frank here sharing all the amazing Kit of the Month creations I made with this kit. I really loved all the various colors with this kit, soft and some more floral, and the amazing add-ons were sooo fantastic, also one of my favorite parts was the amazing Off the page paper bag album!!! Loved that, let me share it all with you!

 

This is my favorite of all, loved the colors, and all the pretty patterns, here are some closeups!

My second layout is such a fun and timeless layout, loved using these Kaiser papers, so wonderful, and yes that is Graphic 45's Owner Diane Schultz! She is amazing!

This layout was made using the amazing Melissa Frances paper, I really loved that paper, so soft and the imagery was sooo perfect, loved it!!! The colors are also so fantastic!

This little box, wow my fave, loved painting, distressing and adding fabulous embellies to this box, such a wonderful keepsake!

Serenity, the paper included in the kit is so lovely, love the imagery, sooo lovely for traveling layouts and cards, which I made here, soo lovely, and also used the cardstock from the Kit, to complement the colors! See that up there, an amazing acetate piece included in the kit I inked with alcohol ink, sooo coool!!!

 

Finally, my paper bag album, I had sooo much fun with this one, and the inkido papers were perfect for it!!! Take a look! page by page!

May KOM featuring the OTP - a paperbag album

Hi there, Maggi here with one of my favorite OTP projects, a paperbag album, or as I call them, PBAs.  Someone asked me once if that was a peanut butter and apple sandwich, LOL!!   These are so fun to make, hope you'll try one!!  When I make PBA's I always chose a theme, then I do a search on the net for images and quotes to go with my theme.  The theme of this PBA is Fly and it features birds, butterflies and fairies.  Here's the cover.

I find that PBA's are easier to make if I chose a paper collection and use it throughout the album.  I used the Inkido 6 x 6 papers that came in the kit.  You can use any kind of adhesive that you like.  I like to use Uhu glue sticks, its inexpensive and whatever you put down stays put!  Since  PBA's don't have page protectors you have to take care that everything is securely adhered.  Another thing that I often do (but did not on this PBA) is paint the front and back covers with Glossy or Crackle Accents to add another layer of protection.

I got some of my images from Gecko Galz and some from a gaphics program that I have. 

Where your PBA has a flap from the bottom of the bag, you can make a place to tuck in some tags.  Below on the left is a flap; you can just see the brown edge of the flap.  I sew the flap across the top and bottom before I add any paper so that the flap is secure.

On the right, instead of making a cubby to tuck in tags, I cut the flap so that it would open out. The flap is open in the first picture and closed in the second.

On the right I used an acetate from from the May KOM.  I painted around the edges with Liquid Pearls.

 I hope I've inspired you to make a PBA, they are so fun and they make great gifts for anyone that has an appreciation for handmade gifts.  My bff loves the artist Salvador Dali so I made her a PBA featuring the works of Dali, she LOVED it! 

Hollyhock flower tutorial by Maggi

My supplies list for this flower:

Spellbinders Nestabilities Blossom Three or something similar - cut 2 the same size

 McGill starburst punch - cut 3

Glimmer Mist - for these I used Cadillac Pink and Tattered Rose

Liquid Pearls in Bisque or Perfect Pearls in Biscotti

Glue - I use hot glue Paintbrush

Ok let's get started.  For my large bloom I used the 2nd largest die and cut two.  For the smaller blooms I used the 3rd largest die and cut two.  Cut between the petals so that you can better manipulate the petals.

Spray the cutouts with the two colors of Glimmer Mist heavily but don't spray the colors over top of each other, rather you want to achieve a varied color effect.

Then place the end of paintbrush handle or something similar in the center of the flower and scrunch the flower around the paintbrush handle.  Then use a heat gun to semi dry the flowers.  I find it easier to open the flowers if I leave them just a tad damp.  Then using the paintbrush handle, curl the flower tips under just slightly.

Now we will paint the center of the flowers.  You can either use liquid pearls slightly watered down or Perfect Pearls.  Paint from the center of the flower towards the outside.  Also paint your starbursts so that everything is sparkly.  Hollyhocks have an iridescent glow to them, at least my fuschia colored ones did.  I used Liquid Pearls on the large bloom and Perfect Pearls on the two smaller.  The effect is nearly identical but I think I liked the Perfect Pearls just a tad more.  Dry the blooms completely after painting the center.

Now glue the bloom with the painted center onto the 2nd bloom alternating the leaf pattern. Hollyhock blooms are bowl shaped so cup the blooms in the palm of your hand to shape them.  I sprayed a little water on the back of the blloms to aid in shaping.  Curl the petals under a little while lifting and making the bowl impression in the center.

Glue the three starbursts on top of each other alternating so that the "stamen" are not lined up and then glue the assembled starbursts in the center of the bowl impression.  Take your tweezers and lift the "stamen" from the starbursts to resemble the center of a holyhock.

Super Simple Flower Altering

Hi everyone! Shona here with a super simple way to alter your flowers and make the colors go with what you need. Have you ever made a layout and just can NOT find the right color of flowers to work? Well I have lots of times. So I just get out my glimmer mists and chance the colors of the flower. You can even mist colored flowers to slightly change the colors. Here is a photo of some Manor House flowers that I have misted. I have misted the two white ones an orange color and the misted the green one with some olive green to tame the color down a bit. That is it…just mist and let them dry. Have fun !!

For the second part of my today post, I have created a layout using some of the new Prima and Manor House flowers and Dusty Attic Chippys, all available in the store here.

 

To add a pop of color I have used some pink glimmer mist on two of the white MH flowers and added them in with the normal blooms.

A new love of mine - 7 dots

Hi everyone!  Laura here! Before becoming a creative team member here at the Unicorn I will admit that I had never heard of 7dots.....oh man am I glad I found the Unicorn.  WOW!  7 dots paper is fabulous!  Great feel and weight, fabulous design and an overall terrific paper!

Here is a little blurb I found on the 7 dots website that I think really sums up their company

My first layout I did, I got messy....I LOVE GETTING MESSY! 

I did a lot of inking and painting and wet embossing on this one! I used the 7 dots Dreamer Collection

 

For the cool chipboard gears (available at the store from Dusty Attic - mini cogs) grungeboard and wood shapes (from my stash) I was inspired by Alda....I mixed some glitter in with my embossing powder and embossed them!  Then I took some Ranger Distress crackle paint - Shabby Shutters and dry brushed them.

I cut a piece of cardboard and painted them black, when dry I used the embossing powder/glitter mix and embossed on that as well...I then added a some of the ranger paint and a few acrylics from my stash

I used a template I had and inked heavily using a make up sponge.  I then punched holes using different sizes of hole punches.  Of course I also inked and distressed all the edges.

My next layout I used the same paper line - Dreamer and I got messy again!

I inked all the outside edges and used paint to 'mat' the photo

I inked the cogs and other embellishments with red and black ink

and I punched two different papers to add some more interest

I was also lucky enough to receive the All I Ever Collection also from 7 dots...

This is more soft line and I wanted to play on the beautiful colors.  I cut the frame out of the 'soft blanket' paper then used foam dots for dimension...I also used beautiful Petaloo flowers and punched butterflies and a few flowers from my stash....

7 Dots-"There Will Be A Day"

Hi! Tracey here! I am excited to show you my creation made with the fabulous 7 Dots Wonderland papers and embellishments. I love the saturated colors and designs-each paper has a lighter version on the opposite side to add to the versatality. I added Ranger glossy and crackle and lots of distress inks to highlight the textures in the paper. I traced the dove and cut it from the leftover paper and attached it with foam dots. I used Maggi's cool sketch-thanks,Maggi! The striking photo was taken by my young photographer friend, Heidi Shartrand and is available through "Nothing Fades Photography" on Facebook. She is extremely talented! The lyrics are from Jeremy Camp's song,"There Will Be A Day".  

Scrapcake and Furbabies!

Now in my mind, there is nothing in this world any cuter than a sweet sweet puppy!  Oh yeah, now you know it's Maggi posting today!

Meet Jezebel at the very sweet age of 6 weeks.  She grew to nearly 100 lbs!  She was a Rhodesian Ridgeback and just the sweetest girl ever!  Oh she was a horrible puppy, chewed everything!  But after much perseverance and work, she turned into a wonderful adult dog that was loved by many!  She had a storied life, she went fishing with my husband at the time who was a commercial fisherman.  She learned to climb up ladder like steps to the wheel house on the boat.  They stayed out at sea for a couple of weeks at the time so she was quite a seadog.  It's funny though, she hated the water!

I made this layout using the gorgeous Scrapcake My Private Happiness collection.  The flowers and vine are Petaloo.  You can get the paper and flowers in the Flying Unicorn Store too.  These flowers are beautiful with this collection.  I stained the lace (from the April KOM) with Lindy's Tibetan Poppy Teal.

I diecut the letters from a blue sheet of  Core'dinations whitewash cardstock using old Lollipop Sizzix dies.  Then I dabbed on some Lindy's Tibetan Poppy Teal mist.  (I purchased alot of my Lindy's mists with dabber caps rather than spray caps, I love them, so much neater and not as much waste.)    The pearls are from the April KOM also.    The quotes are from a set of vellum stickers that I've had for years, no idea who the mfg was but I'm sure they came from Hobby Lobby.

I just did some light distressing on this layout and then inked with Distress Black soot.  The white circle is punched with MS Deco Fans corner punch, one of my favorite techniques and I think Deco Fans is my favorite MS punch.

I popped up the letters to give them some dimension, try this, it'll make your flat letters look more like chipboard.

So much new goodies in the store!!!

Hi everyone, Shona here with a layout today featuring all new goodies in the store here!  I have used the Songbird Prima collection, my Prima distress tool, Prima chalk ink, liquid pearls, a Prima stamp, glimmer mists and Dusty Attic chipboard pieces...all available at the Flying Unicorn store.  I have also used a sketch from SOUS for my layout.  The photo is my daughter and son in law this month when we did a trip to the beach.

I am loving all the new Prima collections with the awesome coordinating embellishments, it makes creating a layout just that much simpler when there is so much from one collection to work with. 

Here you can see all the punch work and stamping that I did around the edges. I love the corner chippys from DA. I have painted them white first, than added some glimmer mists and liquid pearls to them. I also added a hidden journaling tag to this layout.

Ranger Product-Canvas

Hi! Tracey here to continue this week's exploration of the diverisity of Ranger products. I decided to try making a canvas using Ranger's matte finish Glue n' Seal, crackle paint, liquid pearls and tissue tape. I LOVE the way the glue and seal blends the papers so seamlessly into each ther without the "bubbling" that other products are prone to do. I used lots of distress inks,Holtz masks and various Timmy goods as well and had fun with this.

Ranger - The Perfect Accent - Mandy

Happy Hello Scrappers!  Today I bring to you some wonderful fun techniques using Ranger products.  I used "Liquid Pearls" throughout my layout adding just the right touch of bling.  I painted the "Dusty Attic" chipboard with (Shabby Shutter) "Distress Crackle Paint".  I went over the cracks with "Tim Holtz" distress ink.  I cut and shaped the "Dusty Attic" frame around the photo.  Lastly I added "Liquid Pearls" to the chipboard.  I added "Glue N Seal" throughout and sprinkled on some glitter.  These wonderful products can be found in the online store!

I added "Distress Crackle Paint" to the leaves throughout the layout.
